LGR Status

On 29 October 2026, following its review of Local Government Reorganiosation (LGR), the Government announced that it is minded to proceed with creating two new unitary authorities for the north and south of Worcestershire.
There will be a period of at least three weeks during which interested parties are invited to makre representations, with the Government due to announce a final decison before Christmas.
If the decision is confirmed, the timetable for LGR in Worcestershire will change, with Shadow Unitary authority elections talking place in May 2028 and Vesting Day on 1 April 2029.
