Join us on The Green to help Father Christmas in lighting our Christmas tree!

With much regret we have taken the decision to cancel tomorrow’s Christmas Fayre. There is a yellow weather warning in place for tomorrow with very high winds forecast. As this is a outdoor event and all the stalls are in marquees or gazebos we could not take the risk. The Parish Council are extremely disappointed to have to do this as so much work has gone into this by us and the stall holders. We are going to arrange another event at Easter when hopefully the weather will be kinder to us.

CHRISTMAS CHEER ON THE GREEN

After last year’s Covid near-cancellation of Christmas in 2020, Hartlebury can look forward to a much cheerier celebration this year, courtesy of the Parish Council.  On November 27^th from 3.00pm until 7.00pm on the Village Green will be the gathering place for the community to come along to the Hartlebury Christmas Fayre and witness the turning on of the lights by Stourport Town Mayor and Mayoress on the village’s first Christmas tree, an event generously supported by local business and the Parish Council.

Chair of the Parish Council Tim Ingham commented, “For some months the Council has been discussing what we can offer the community in terms of events, now that the threat of Covid is largely behind us and we can join together again.  Indeed the Parish Council have been working hard to organise this event and engaging with local businesses to make this an evening to remember and hopefully it will be the start of a new annual tradition.”

Alongside the lighting of the Christmas tree on the Green, there will be a variety of stalls who will be selling crafts and gifts to suit all pockets for the keen Christmas shopper.  Those more inclined to socialise can avail themselves of a drink and hot food.

Councillor Clare Atkinson, who has been the main co-ordinator of the event hopes, ‘This will be a memorable event for the village which will anticipate the Advent season with goodwill and good fun with the bonus of all proceeds going to our local Church.’

Preventing dust on Station Road

Companies Biffa and Wienerberger, with site access at the bottom of Station Road in Hartlebury, have been collaborating to reduce the transfer of clay dust from working areas onto Station Road.

Wienerberger’s Hartlebury site is a brick factory, with an adjacent clay quarry. Next to Wienerberger, Biffa is filling and gradually covering a landfill cell for inert waste. Both sites are accessed by HGVs which occasionally transfer clay mud and dust onto the bottom of Station Road. Both companies have been working with members of our Community Liaison Committee to address resident’s concerns about this.

Biffa and Wienerberger control mud and dust on Station Road with three preventative actions:

• Biffa operates a wheel wash which all HGV drivers accessing Biffa and Wienerberger’s quarry must use before leaving the site. The wheel wash removes clay from the wheels and prevents transfer of mud and dust from the site onto Station Road. However, not all HGV drivers adhere to the instruction to use the wheel wash before leaving, so Biffa reinforces this site rule through site induction training, installed signage and contact with drivers’ management.

• Over the past two months, Wienerberger has been undertaking its annual clay quarrying to build a stockpile for brickmaking. As the clay dries out, vehicle movements can produce dust. A water bowser is used to dampen the working area to suppress dust particles and reduce transfer to Station Road.

• Wienerberger and Biffa share responsibilities for road sweeping from the site gate to the top of Station Road and back, at least once per day on weekdays. The sweeper collects any clay mud and dust which may have been dropped near the gates of each site or accidently transferred onto Station Road. In addition, Wienerberger has recently been upgrading the site haulage roads which will reduce the potential for clay to be transferred onto Station Road.
